Did you know that the (practically) first electric car in India – Reva – had a top speed of just 65 kmph? Even for the early 2000s, this was not much of an impressive number to go with. But the focus of the car then wasn’t the speed. It was a step towards a sustainable future. Today, things have changed.
The EV segment in the country is witnessing a transformation today. Every aspect of an electric car – speed, power, charging time, range, looks – has improved substantially from what it was back in the 2000s. With automobile players like Tata, Mahindra, Audi, MG, Jaguar, and many more foraying into the EV category, here is our list of the fastest electric cars in India as of 2021.
Fastest electric cars in India in 2021:
Jaguar I-Pace (200 kmph)
A product of Jaguar Land Rover – the British subsidiary of Tata – the I-Pace is one of the first premium electric SUVs in the market. Ever since its launch in 2018, the I-Pace has been honored with various awards like the European Car of the Year Award and the World Car of the Year Award. It finally entered the Indian markets in early 2021.
The Jaguar I-Pace is capable of hitting a top speed of 200 kmph, making it the fastest electric car in the Indian market today. It has a solid battery pack of 90 kWh and can generate a max torque of 696 Nm. It can go from 0 to 100 kmph in merely 4.8 seconds. This puts the Jaguar I-Pace at the top of our fastest electric cars in India in 2021 list.

- Audi e-tron: Top speed of 124 kmph
Infusing power in electric vehicles while maintaining the driving range and the overall cost is a challenging task. And hence, the fastest electric cars in India in 2021 are evidently the ones that come with a higher price. But, with manufacturers seeking to bring about innovation in the car designs, supported by increased R&D efforts and newer technology, we hope that mid-tier cars will also see a significant improvement in the future.
